Wellbeing
The wellbeing of our children is at the heart of all we do. Children are unable to progress fully in their learning unless they feel safe and happy. We are very lucky to have five trained Thrive Practitioners able to deliver the Thrive wellbeing approach and intervention as well as five Nurture Practitioners and a member of staff trained in ELSA and Bereavement Counselling. Our Nurture or 'Cwtch' Room runs on four afternoons for groups of children and many children receive Thrive individually or in groups in one of our two Thrive Rooms.
We have been lucky to work closely with trained therapists including our Music Therapist, Joy Dando. We have also recently had dog therapy within the school.
Wellbeing is the responsibility of every member of staff in the school and we also encourage children to help each other. It is through this ethos that we have fostered the caring, nurturing environment we are so proud of. As our School Vision states, "...we nurture all children and understand that success follows happiness."
We also work very closely with the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Team at Cardiff Council and the Educational Psychology Service for those children who need extra support.
In Summer 2022, our recent Estyn Inspection Report was published and we were so proud to read:
"Pupils at St Francis RC Primary School feel a strong sense of belonging. The school’s nurturing and caring environment, underpinned by an ethos of tolerance, kindness and respect, ensures that pupils feel safe. They know who to turn when they need support or advice and are confident that problems will be dealt with swiftly and effectively."
